Covid-19 Protection Framework

Date: 30 Nov 2021

As New Zealand prepares to move into the new Covid-19 protection framework at 11.59pm on Thursday 2 December, there is much to understand about what this means for business owners, employees and customers.

The COVID-19 Protection Framework will replace the Alert Level system. It will provide more flexibility for businesses as New Zealand manages COVID-19 in the community.

The new Framework involves a traffic light system and allows businesses to open and operate in a way that is as close to normal for vaccinated people while minimising the virus’ spread.

The Framework empowers people and business to take responsibility for keeping COVID-19 down and also allows business to operate more freely than what the original alert level system did, with the hopes that lockdowns and business closures will be a thing of the past.
