Employed Barrister LLB

Charmaine is a dedicated employment lawyer who brings extensive practical experience to her role. For two and a half years, she served as an employment advocate, navigating a wide range of complex issues. Her background in a union-adjacent organisation provides her with a robust understanding of both individual and collective agreements.

She is highly adept at managing performance and disciplinary processes, representing clients in mediation, and handling matters through to the Employment Relations Authority (ERA). Her practice also includes advising employers on restructures, redundancy processes, employment status, and drafting robust employment contracts and policies.

Charmaine offers specialised expertise in two key areas: she is an educator focusing on youth employment issues and a valued advisor on the intersection of tikanga Māori and employment law. She has also shared her insights as a guest lecturer at AUT, discussing the relationship between tikanga and good faith.

Charmaine is an active member of Te Hunga Roia Māori o Aotearoa (The New Zealand Māori Law Society) and has served on its executive as tauira tumuaki from 2019 to 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court in early 2025.
